- WCW PPVs have been removed from YouTube I've started reviewing WCW Nitro instead also it's a nice parallel to my RAW is WAR reviews, though they are different years as RAWs are from '99, so I guess there's no parallels at all really.
Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko handle hour 1 commenatry.
Glacier Vs. Bobby Eaton
Did Mortal Kombat ever file a lawsuit against WCW as Glaciers entrance attire is basically Sub Zero. Pretty sub standard match which Glacier dominates mostly. There was a point where the ref seemed to signal a 2 count though he hadn't counted. Super kick got Glacier the 3 count. **
Advert plays for WCW shirts. Debra and Mongo do the advertising.
Tony and Larry give a rundown of the show then we see footage of Big Bubba and Konnan fighting for the last few weeks which brings us to ....
Mexican Strap Match - Big Bubba Vs. Konnan w/ Jimmy Hart
Bib Bubba is Big Bossman and you must touch all 4 corners to get the win. Bubba is in nWo. Tony mentions the upcoming Souled Out PPV bar Eddie/Syxx I've heard nothing but bad about that PPV. Pretty even match where they exchange whips etc. Bib Bubba touched 3 corners at one point but K-Dawg stops the 4th being touched via a sleeper. Strap assisted low blow by K-Diggity Diggity and he keeps the strap there as he touches 3 corners and manages to win when Bubba punches him into the 4th corner, he screwed up like he did at Survivor Series 1998 though not intentionally here. Bossman Slam connects post match.
Mean Gene interviews Kevin Sullivan about Benoit and Nancy Sullivan but Kevin aint happy and leaves when Mean Gene goes to show him a tape that isn't about Benoit, Nancy. This being WCW we may not even find out what was on said tape.
Back from commercial as Gene brings out IV Horsemen, well 3 of them as Benoit isn't here. This was the Flair, AA, Mongo, Benoit version. Debra, who is Mongos wife and best remembered as Austins wife, runs her mouth off about Benoit which brings out Jarrett, who she managed in WWF, and he claims he should be a Horsemen. He insults Arn and they start fighting until it's broken up and everyone leaves together.
nWo advert selling Souled Out T-Shirt and poster, Syxx,Hall and Nash do the selling.
TV title - DDP Vs. Steven Regal
DDP no shows and Jim Duggan of all people replaces him. Match is awful as it seemed to last about a half hour. Most notable thing is nWo take over commentary and say that DDP has joined the Order, hmmm, Bischoff also says Randy Savage is done. Guess what .... the match went to a time limiot draw! *.
Hugh Morrus Vs. Jim Powers (w/ Teddy Long)
Computer played up for about 10 minutes as even this doesn't want me to see this. Short match where Powers gets some offence but is finished by a Hugh Morrus moonsault. Say Hugh Morrus fast. N/R = no rating. I think you can hear Teddy Long say damn if only I was a ref up north.
Lex Luger tells us not to change the channel as his match with Meng, though I'm sure he says Ming, is coming up in the next hour.
Hour 2 has Sciavone, Mike Tenay and Bobby Heenan on commentary.
Psychosis Vs. Rey Mysterio, jr.
Match is mainly dives but nothing linking them. Some of the dives are impressive but I prefer wrestling matches also Psychosis nearly breaks his neck when he goes for a springboardy move to ringside but falls headfirst to ringside, I think he hit the apron on the way down which broke his fall. It's a better match than their Road Wild one but still not that good. Springboard hurricanrana gets Rey the 3 count. **
Kevin Sullivan Vs. Chavo Guerrero jr.
Production botch as Tony calls for a video of Sullivan hitting Benoit at Starracde but instead we see Eddy Guerrero getting beaten up at Starrcade. Match is unrateable as it was basically a squash. Sullivan got the 3 via a double foot stomp, as we see Davey Richards in the crowd thinking hmmm, okay I may of made that last bit up .... or did I?
We see nWo beating up piper last week on Nitro, he had beat Hogan at Starrcade in a non title match. As he is stretchered away he is ranting like a loony.
Alex Wright Vs. Eddie Guerrero
This is the best match of the night as they actually wrestled though as this is 1997 the crowd weren't interested. They traded headlocks, wristlocks and suplexes etc. the crowd did awaken when Syxx appeared, he stood atop a ladder posing with Eddies US Title, Syxx had stolen it at Starrcade and they have an upcoming Ladder match at Souled Out, also Syxx is X-Pac. Alex got a few near falls but was pinned after a superplex and Frog Splash, Syxx runs away after Eddie wins. ***
Harlem Heat Vs. The Amazing French Canadians
Double suplex by Harlem to Jacques Rougeau. Booker busts out the Spin-a-rooni. but is sent flipping from a clothesline by Carl Ouellet. tag psychology as Booker is being isolated now then he is piledriven, don't see that move anymore. Double boston crab and a top rope legdrop combo by the AFC. Jacques is hit with a flag due to heel miscommunication and Harlem Heat get the 3 with a powerbomb/elbow drop combo, like a version of Demolition Decapitation. ** - Had Tag Psychology which I appreciate but wasnt too good as a whole.
Advert plays for nWo Souled Out.
Lex Luger Vs. Meng
This is the match we were told not to change the channel for. Not much of note until Meng hits a clothesline. Lex fights back seconds after taking a piledriver which irritates me a bit. Meng misses a corner splash and is Torture Racked but the ref is knocked down by Mengs foot allowing Barbarian to interfere. Stupid finish as Lex gets the win by Torture Racking Barbarian who wasn't in the match.
nWo are gathered asound entranceway as Nash, Bischoff and Hogan come out. They talk about beating up Piper and Giant, this naturally brings out Giant he cleans out all of the nWo bar Eric and Hogan but soon numbers get the better after Hogan uses a chair and Giant is beaten down, whilst no WCW wrestlers come out to help him. After the beating nWo take over the commentary booth as Vincent poses over a KOd Giant but the Giant awakens Chokeslam for Vincent as we end the show with a Sting appearance.
